Except Operator

In this video, Marco show how to use EXCEPT and ilustrates the difference between INTERSECT and EXCEPT. When you first look at these two operators you'll see that you could do what they do with joins, but for the sitations where they fit, they are a lot more elegant and more clearly express the intent. Worth using!

Very well explained, especially with the different examples.

can you compare using intersect & except to using join & left join in terms of efficiency when dealing with large amount of data? which method is better and in which situation?

How does this relate to NOT EXISTS (subqueries)? What happens when you have multiple EXCEPT operators, as for looking for the exceptions in one table in two other tables.

The EXCEPT clause seems more useful to me than the INTERSECT clause. However, both are really great additions to T-SQL! Good explanation on both, thank you!

Initially thought the video resolution was going to be a problem, but the zoom in was find Nice touch with the highlighting of results Would have been better to have the two source tables displayed at the same time as the results

Rene Rodriguez on 11/24/2010
Presented very well.

Sam Schafer on 2/4/2011
Once again, the examples are simple and easy to follow - they clearly demonstrate what EXCEPT is intended for. Well done.
