Moving DSN's

DSN's (data source names) are used to store connection string information in either the registry or the file system. When you upgrade to a new server or move a job or process to a different server, you may have to move related DSN's as well. The process isn't hard, just remember that moving the DSN doesn't move any required libraries or client code, you have to track those down and get installed on the new machine as a separate step.

Hi Andy, Nice video about moving DSNs. It would be good to add more for the real life scenarios: you are moving both your web server and DB server, so your DSNs have to reflect the new DB server name or new Excel or MS ACCESS file locations etc. Also if you are moving stuff to the brand-new 2008 x64 servers. I had to spend a few hours before I even found my drivers on x64! The additional ODBC administrator with the drivers is in C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder. Also to use theses drivers you have to enable running 32 bit processes in IIS. Best Regrads, Yelena Varshal yelena.varshal@philips.com

Get to show how to add it to the text list. I just moved 78 DNS's to my new servers.
