Takes Query Plan Analysis and Performance Monitoring to a New Level

Using Variables in a SSIS Package

Using variables in SSIS packages is really the key to getting work done elegantly. In this example Marco shows how to control whether a package downloads a daily or weekly file. Almost anything can be set or changed using a variable, and in turn that can be set externally if you choose to allow it. One note - all variables have a 'scope', make sure you select the appropriate scope or you'll be scratching your head wondering why the value isnt' visible.

Absolutely fantastic video and excellent break down of how this is done. Hope to see more SSIS videos, thank-you!

praveen on 7/19/2010
It would be better understanding, If you start the video from the creating parent and child packages. So that we understand well

Caine Schneider on 7/19/2010
Confused by the SQL statement in the child package. Looks like it is inserting static values and not those from the variables. Still a good demonstration of the capability.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like that much Rubens. I've made a 2nd video about SSIS variables. It will be soon available.

It's quite diffiuclt to follow thru with the poor pronuciation. However, the effort is good and the contents too.

sridhar on 7/20/2010
It is good.

Dima on 7/22/2010
Good video, but it confused by the SQL statement in the child package. It is inserting static values. Variables should be mapped in SQL statement and variables values will be inserted in log table.

Omair on 7/22/2010
Wow, very hard to follow. Can hardly understand. Very monotonous tone. Boring instructor.

Dick Rosenberg on 7/22/2010
A little hard to understand what he was trying to do, but otherwise great.

good..

Charlie Bruno on 7/23/2010
Very good information. Difficult to understand the speaker as well as he was speaking in a low voice. He was also speaking and demo-ing too fast.

Excellent!

SQL_Group on 6/5/2011
very good. Nice example. But could have added some more points in explaining why you are changing the package configuration in child package and how it is going to affect the output. That will be beneficial for the beginners.

Edgar Machado on 7/17/2011

T. Carnahan on 9/21/2011
A little too fast and hard to absorb.

Bhaumik Gandhi on 9/25/2011
Good explaination

Raj Nair on 10/29/2011
cool

G. on 11/9/2011
Very clear. However, inserting to the package_log table needs to use parameter placeholders and mapping in the Execute SQL Task. The video flowed thru with constant values insert. Not sure how it was done?!

xuhui duan on 12/6/2011
very clear demo! thanks.

Saikumar on 12/30/2011
