Takes Query Plan Analysis and Performance Monitoring to a New Level

Troubleshooting Failed Reporting Services Subscriptions

Most of the time subscriptions run fine, but what happens when they fail - how you figure out what is going wrong? Profiler might help you figure it out, depending on where in the process the subscription is failing, but it's not the first place to look. It's one of those times when you hope for a cool answer, but in the end it's what you would expect, a log file hidden away on disk that at least gives you a starting point. We'll show you where, and mention an interesting bit of maintenance you should be doing as well.

Interesting. You mention truncating reporting services log files by putting together a job to do this. It would be interesting to see how that is done.

Amazing, I've been having problems in our subscriptions here at work and resolving to restarting the server to fix the problem which sometimes works and other not has not helped. At least now I can see where the source of the problem is.

Thanks for giving the pointer to the log files, but it would be more helpful to show how to debug some real-world error messages (like "Error: Cannot read the next data row for the dataset", etc.). Thanks!

Thanks, that really usefult. Did you bring it to Micorsoft's attention so that they can include a feture to removed these logs after certain number of days?

It would be very helpful if you would post a script(s) along with your videos. Thanks.
