Allowing Users to Execute Traces in SQL Server

In this video Brian takes you through adding the permissions to non-sysadmin users to be able to execute traces on a SQL Server instance by using GRANT ALTER TRACE. He also goes over some of the limitations and security features of SQL Profiler when running traces.

I believe the comment about being able to see returned data like social security numbers is wrong. I don't think SQL Profiler ever shows the returned data. We only see it in your example because the data is in the query itself. Apart from this, I think it's a really good demonstration. Thanks.

I liked the explanation regarding security. The fact that sensitive data could be seen in clear text is not something that I would necessarily think of when a developer is asking for the ability to run a trace.
