Computed columns are an interesting alternative to expressions in a stand alone select or a select contained in a view. Not something you'll use often, but good to know how it works.

Loved it. But wish it did not have a cliff hanger end. Indeed, what are the performance implications for both methods? Thanks

It was useful in terms of demonstrating technique but I feel it stopped short in terms of advantages vs views etc.

I would like to know what goes on behind the scenes. When a computed column is added to a table, what happens, does the optimizer complete the computation only when that column is referenced ? What if an index is placed on that column ?

Thanks Andy....
