Expression Language Basics

The expression language in SSIS is not quite C# and not quite TSQL, and it's case sensitive. But it's not hard to use once you get started, and Tim Mitchell has done a great job of helping you get started in this short video.

Short and to the point

MattP on 4/28/2009
Sound was very low

Bharat Dalvi on 4/28/2009
Easy to understand, Short and Smart

The only improvement I would suggest would be to also show the "before" results of querying the table to be modified by the SSIS example.

Paul Newhart on 4/28/2009
Should provide a link to a reference for all syntax.

Robert Neal on 4/28/2009
Good video. Need comment on where to go for help on expression language.

Carley Zepeda on 4/28/2009
a few tips on where to learn more would've been good. books? sites? sample code?

E5C2E26885 on 4/28/2009
Cool - I'd like to see a more advanced demonstration of other expressions in the future

Keith on 4/28/2009
Why would someone want ot learn another language to do this in SSIS that can already be done with the existing languages? Answering this and giving more examples as to where it could be used would have served my time better, I could look up a syntax question.

277240AEDA on 4/28/2009
I have my volume all the way up and can barely hear the video.

James on 4/28/2009
I thought it would be more as language structure kind of subject; is something like that available?

luther smith on 4/28/2009
Good pace.

Taf Greenstreet on 4/29/2009
Excellent sample, but the ZOOM was a bit disorienting. When it doubt, 600x800 it out! :)

bc on 4/29/2009
Thanks, good basic demo. Would love to see a little more advanced ssis expression demo.

Harold Isgette on 5/1/2009
couldn't hear it with my volume to max

Dipak Saha on 5/1/2009
Useful video.

lisa on 5/5/2009
Hard to hear the presenter, remember to speak loudly and clearly please. I know this may come in handy with my job, i wish there was a way we can save our favorite presentations to pull up later, other than my favorites folder.

Wil Sisney on 5/7/2009
Another fantastic video! I wish I'd had this 3 months ago when I had to use SSIS and the substring function to solve a similar problem. Watching this video first would have saved me hours of fumbling. And extra points for the creator for using charachters from The Office as the employees! ;)

Yamini Sridhar on 5/8/2009
Excellent Video

Jack Pines on 5/13/2009
Good, brief introduction.

14AB11F8BD on 5/15/2009
Too short.. doesn't cover much of the intended topic.

Saibal on 5/16/2009
Can we have some more examples?

Dan on 5/21/2009
Excellent overview!

Becky Veselka on 5/21/2009
I plan to keep a link to this one for reference. Excellent explanation and examples!

Lilia on 5/24/2009
awesome!

Allen on 7/17/2009
awesome!

Sameer on 7/24/2009
Good video with audio volume little low. Thanks

Mark Gorczyca on 7/28/2009
Good basic intro, I would also add the use of the type cast functions, as their use can be confusing until you see it in action. And we all know how type sensitive SSIS can be.

Dima on 7/30/2009
Thanks a lot for a good video lesson !

sam on 9/29/2009
GREAT

Tonci on 10/14/2009

excellent !!!

Arun on 4/2/2010
good one

Sean on 4/16/2010
This was good but I was kind of hoping for more complex statements like converting numbers to strings with formatting.

paul march on 4/20/2010
Helpful

Voice is low.

Ahmad Elayyan on 5/16/2010
short but direct to the goal :)

Excellent video, Can you guys upload videos of expressions and typical syntax basics of expressions using variables and having even more complexities

Samuel Enchill on 10/14/2010
Smart GUY.

Joe DeMarco on 11/17/2010
Had trouble hearing the presentation, though speaker volume was as high as possible

Dexter Jones on 11/17/2010
A very concise example. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more. :)

nilesh bilimoria on 11/17/2010
nice job

Alexander on 11/17/2010
very good video

Phil Rothenberg on 11/17/2010
It was a good presentation, but I thought since this is supposed to get you started with the expression language, that the interface should have been discussed and the ability to drag and drop column names and functions into your expression.

Sena Ramsey on 11/17/2010
More please!

Nilesh on 11/17/2010
good job like it

Michael on 11/17/2010
Thanks

Michael:Your dentist's name is Crentist? Odd name for a dentist. Dwight: Perhaps that's why he became a dentist.

John on 11/17/2010
What is it with MicroSlush????? Syntax for same functions seems to vary with each product they put out (viz: Excel, Access, VBA, TSQL, and now SSIS) A little consistency would be nice

Charles Rich on 11/17/2010
It looked good but I was interrupted a couple of times so I'm going to watch it again.

borjonx on 11/17/2010
It's pitiful that you have whore ads off to the left of the video. WhoreMe.com? Meet people LIVE! That brings your site down several notches.

Jeromy Kimani on 11/17/2010
Like the highlighted mouse pointer.

Charlie Bruno on 11/17/2010
Nice presentation

manjeet on 11/17/2010
nice video

Mihai Moisei on 11/17/2010
Excelent

Joaquin Ortega on 11/18/2010
Audio was very low, captions perhaps ?

Sean on 11/18/2010
Interesting but a little short.

Jack Pines on 11/18/2010
SQL Server's inconsistencies with their expression language root language can be quite confusing. VBA seems to be the root in SSRS but not here?

Marcelo Marim on 12/13/2010
Very good video... keep it up.

Maurice Ivory on 5/20/2011
This was very good information, that made good sense to me.

kerwin siy on 6/6/2011
streaming is very slow

stephen on 6/23/2011

Abdul on 7/12/2011
great video

SQL_Group on 2/1/2012
