Expression Language Basics

Expression Language Basics

The expression language in SSIS is not quite C# and not quite TSQL, and it's case sensitive. But it's not hard to use once you get started, and Tim Mitchell has done a great job of helping you get started in this short video.

Sound was very low

Easy to understand, Short and Smart

The only improvement I would suggest would be to also show the "before" results of querying the table to be modified by the SSIS example.

Paul Newhart on 4/28/2009
Should provide a link to a reference for all syntax.

Robert Neal on 4/28/2009
Good video. Need comment on where to go for help on expression language.

Carley Zepeda on 4/28/2009
a few tips on where to learn more would've been good. books? sites? sample code?

E5C2E26885 on 4/28/2009
Cool - I'd like to see a more advanced demonstration of other expressions in the future

Keith on 4/28/2009
Why would someone want ot learn another language to do this in SSIS that can already be done with the existing languages? Answering this and giving more examples as to where it could be used would have served my time better, I could look up a syntax question.

I have my volume all the way up and can barely hear the video.

James on 4/28/2009
I thought it would be more as language structure kind of subject; is something like that available?

luther smith on 4/28/2009
Good pace.

Excellent sample, but the ZOOM was a bit disorienting. When it doubt, 600x800 it out! :)

Thanks, good basic demo. Would love to see a little more advanced ssis expression demo.

Harold Isgette on 5/1/2009
couldn't hear it with my volume to max

Useful video.

Hard to hear the presenter, remember to speak loudly and clearly please. I know this may come in handy with my job, i wish there was a way we can save our favorite presentations to pull up later, other than my favorites folder.

Another fantastic video! I wish I'd had this 3 months ago when I had to use SSIS and the substring function to solve a similar problem. Watching this video first would have saved me hours of fumbling. And extra points for the creator for using charachters from The Office as the employees! ;)

Excellent Video

Too short.. doesn't cover much of the intended topic.

Saibal on 5/16/2009
Can we have some more examples?

Dan on 5/21/2009
Excellent overview!

I plan to keep a link to this one for reference. Excellent explanation and examples!

Good video with audio volume little low. Thanks

Mark Gorczyca on 7/28/2009
Good basic intro, I would also add the use of the type cast functions, as their use can be confusing until you see it in action. And we all know how type sensitive SSIS can be.

Dima on 7/30/2009
Thanks a lot for a good video lesson !
