Even though you saved the template as "JumpStart" and then started a new trace to open the "JumpStart" template, you should have navigated to "Events Selection" TAB to ensure your change/selection was still persisted, just to prove the thoery

I am using a SQL Profiler 8, i am just wondering why such pop-up menu for connecting to db server is not appearing when i open my profiler.
|
|
|
can you create a SQL profiler template, and save it locally, then import it on another totally different SQL DB?
|
|
|
Sorry Gerard I must have missed your comment earlier. To get the connect to server dialog you have to select new trace from the file menu or the toolbar.

Jimmya11,
You can export a template and import it onto any PC with Profiler installed. On the PC you designed the template on open Profiler and go to File -> Templates -> Export Template. Being sure to export to a location accessible to the other PC or onto removable media. Then on the other PC do File -> Templates -> Import Template

Jack, thank you.
One thing I notice on my server (Windows 2K3, SQL 2005 Enterprise) is that user-defined trace files are stored per user, not per server. The dummy tdf file I created is saved to C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Application Data\Microsoft\SQL Profiler\9.0\Templates\Microsoft SQL Server\90\testtemplate.tdf
So if you log in to a server, other users won't be able to see the trace templates you create, apparently. You'll need to either copy the template to another user's folder or go through Export/Import.

Thank you.
I was hoping for a more indepth look into profiler, but i guess the video shows what the title promises.
Thanks for the upload.

I was just wondering how to save the template yesterday. Very timely.

You did not show where templates are stored.

This good knowledge to know, so I don't have to recreate a template.
