SQL Server System Functions

This video introduces some of the system functions like fn_virtualfilestats and fn_listextendedproperty. Some of these have been replaced by system tables in SQL 2005 and later, but you can still use them and they may already be in use in code you own!

It was good.

Good information, but could be organized better. Less information that is focused is more helpful.

Sara Karasik on 6/12/2009
somewhat slow and boring. too much about old (sql 2000), not enough about 2005

Joe Pool on 6/15/2009
It would be nice to have a text version of the demonstrations so I could do a simple copy/paste on my end, but I always have to walk through the video again clicking Pause to get the example code. Just nit-picking.

useful

The key to trainig is to get the audiences attetion. Some advice, would be to speak up and speak clearly so the wont be any guessing as to what was said. This is concerning the instructor, not the informatin given, Marshall cole

Really good to know when tuning and optimizing sql server. Thank you.

Arun on 3/5/2010
Informative ... but the narration is very very slow.

Keith Wiggans on 6/15/2010
Just what I needed to see!

Charlie Bruno on 12/30/2010
Very interesting, never exposed to this type of functionality. The presentor could have provided more explanation about what was being returned from these functions. He also mentioned something about using info to tune perfomance but did not elaborate... overall, for me, a student of SQL Server and BI, a good basic exposure. Thanks for great lessons!

missing dynamism and a good pace.

It would be nice if you could get a copy for the code being executed

Eric Willesmtein on 12/30/2010
Great information, however he was a little hard to hear at times and I had to keep increasing the volume on the speakers

Marcelo Marim on 12/30/2010
Like it but we need more info on the subject of the video on the introduction. Pace is slow and the voice is sad. I like to get motivated and not frustrated when I watch a video.

I can't rate this video because I'm not sure how useful this information would be to me. If the narrator could include some "this-data-would-be-useful-if-your-boss-asked-you-for" scenarios, I would have some idea of how it could be directly applied. Otherwise, it's just internal SQL Server trivia. I would probably only need it once in my life, in which case, I'd search for this video and not find the contents useful on a day-to-day basis.

Hard to follow. Why would you need/use these. More examples.

Arun on 12/31/2010
voice is bit low. content is good

Arun on 12/31/2010
Voice clarity is not there.... Content is good

Subhash Lahoti on 12/31/2010
good info

Robert Djabarov on 12/31/2010
Pick an area, like profiler tracess, and show what you can do there using DMVs. What you showed is really like "Look what I found, now let me waste your time telling you about it".

Paul Billington on 1/8/2011
Is it available as pod cast? It would be great to watch on the train to work. Paul

Mohamed Irshad on 1/11/2011
good

I think your choice of selecting the TOP 2000000000 rows was too limiting. (I understand this is to allow order by in udf but TOP 100% is usually easier to understand...)

Robert Wine on 11/17/2011
Good stuff, lots of great information and tools there.

huh? ended rather abruptly...
