very good - hows about passing parameters using openrowset

Joshua Clausen on 10/2/2009
Great, but didn't talk about cases where you have to specify a username/password. it's the security concerns that would be an interesting discussion. That, and some of the workarounds.... Great, now my critique has moved a bit beyond scope. Still, a good concise demo.

Ralph Schwehr on 10/2/2009
would have been nice to show connections to excel spreadsheets and other non-sql server dataproviders.

Rashid on 10/2/2009
can we execute parametrized SP through openrowset which do only do some kind of calculations.

Chris Williams on 10/2/2009
I like the video, but there's a bunch more to openrowset. A very common use of openrowset is to use it when loading images/docs to a SQL table. It would be helpful for you to cover that aspect of openrowset as well. Thanks, though. I do like it.

Next time, show us how to connect to a non-SQL source

I would like to see you close the Demo with any comments on items to clean up. In this Demo, Advanced options were used. Are there loose ends to clean up? Thanks, --John deCoville

needs more information.

Paul Carmichael on 10/2/2009
great intro thanks. How about a video on importing xml into a sql?

Paul on 10/2/2009
Wasnt very indepth connecting to a sql datasource. Perhaps a text file / olap or some other source ?

Dennis Allen on 10/2/2009
Hows does OpenRowset compare with OpenQuery? Why would I want to use it in place of a linked server?

yaser on 10/4/2009
good video

Brian Savoie on 10/4/2009
MORE! :) What's the difference between OpenRowset and OpenDataSource?

E2F948EA23 on 10/5/2009
The demonstration did not show how to use non-SQL Server data. I was thinking it would demonstrate access to a text file or spreadsheet or something of that nature.

Travis on 10/5/2009
attached code would be nice..

The comment for the video was "In this introductory level video you'll learn how to use OpenRowset, a great way to access remote (or non-SQL) data on the fly." OK demonstration on remote access, but what about non-sql and remote access with login/pass?

Good material; Bad Sound.

What are benefits of OpenRowset over Linked server ?

A Alagu Ganesh on 1/8/2010
Good

Fred Fowler on 2/1/2010
Decent but a little shallow on the details.

John on 4/8/2010
Not clear whether sp_configure must be run on the target server or the source server or both. Will experiment.

John on 4/8/2010
Ok, tried enabling on the non-target server and it works. This is fantastic as a linked server solution was not working between SQL2008 to SQL2000. Great stuff!!!

Robert Neal on 11/4/2010
Not enough information.

I would have liked some more comment about Reconfigure. most of the videos in this series are presented at a understandable speed but I would have liked this one to be a little slower, the better to understand new concepts.

Satyabodhi Densmore on 11/24/2010
The audio volume seems lower than usual.

Jeff Benedict on 11/30/2010
Nice

another useful video

Russell Tye on 12/12/2010
Great! I will view it again.

J Delilah Webb on 12/28/2010
Advanced knowledge is required before you can relate to the instructions in this video. Not being familiar with this functionality or how to access the spreadsheets I want to use, I am totally lost.

Tim Roberts on 1/21/2011
No Sound- great topic-- hope to watchit later with sound

Jeff Torres on 3/29/2011
Good stuff.

Steven Robinson on 1/27/2012
Great video

Cheryl on 2/17/2012
Easily understood, just not sure why I would use it.
