Visual good; speech a little muttered--slow down a little when speaking... just a little. Otherwise great.

Would DTC work on Linux/Unix servers?

Brian Knight on 11/27/2008
I'm afraid the nature of MSDTC is it only works on MS boxes.

Hi , I am using bulk insert tasks in a package and executesqltasks. i enabled transaction at package level as required. and all other tasks are supported.when i am intentionally failing the transaction by using in oneof the tasks using 1/0. the database is becoming una accessible. and it generates error 1222 when i try to access with sql management studio.i have atleast 3 million records in a table. any suggestions? Thanks, MAdhu im_sr@hotmail.com

How does a transaction on a FOREACH container behave? Say the FOREACH container enumerates over a directory listing containing ten filenames, and the container loads the contents of each file into a database table. Say the fifth file contains a duplicate key value and the table insert fails. Does the transaction on the container rollback all data loaded from files one through five, or does it only rollback data loaded from the fifth file?

I will soon be the company expert on SSIS. I won't tell anyone else about Jumpstart TV! ;-)

good one

You make it seem so simple. It got me past the first problem, MSDTC not running, still not running, but this was a great way to get started.

Very useful information. I was handling my transactions at the SP level, because I didn't know I could handle it at the package level. Thank you

A very clear video - just what I needed for "Step 1" in my venture into SSIS... It would be useful to know how to provoke a ROLLBACK for example when an SP CATCHes an issue and sends a non-zero RC to the SQL Task... How do we ensure a ROLLBACK is performed...? BTW: All SP's are callable from .Net or from SSIS, so transactions are NOT managed in the SP as a matter of practice...

Brian - You are the BEST!!! I thank God for people like you who provide developers like me information like this. I've been struggling with how to set-up transactions in SSIS, and your video was a TREMENDOUS help. I pray that the Lord continues to bless you over and abundantly in all your endeavors. God Bless You! Rebecca Scott

Osum. Cleared my doubts. Thanks

Excellent Brian. These inbuilt properties and functions within general SSIS objects are so unknown to the general users, however when you demonstrate them in simple tutorial videos like this, it really allows us to see the proper uses and apply them to practical applications. Well done and keep them coming.

Thank you, Brian. I'm afraid I still don't understand when to use Required and When to use supported. Could you have set the package to required, the container to supported, and the sql taks to supported and still have everything roll back on the error on "Insert A"?

Arpitha on 10/20/2010
