I'm currently working for FM Global, an industry leading engineering & insurance company, as a DBA. I've done development of large scale applications in languages such as VB, C# and Java. I've worked in SQL Server from the hoary days of 6.0. My nickname at work is the "The Scary DBA." I even have an official name plate with it. I wear it proudly. I was awarded a Microsoft MVP in April of '09.

Would be good to explain what "as needed" means. "as needed" by what?

Josef on 5/25/2009
I don't see the point of it. When should it and shouldn't it be used ?

Michael Garstin on 5/25/2009
It should have been just a little bit longer with a little bit more information...explain HOW/WHY this helps the query execution

Jamshid Nouri on 5/25/2009
short & informative.

Bill Nicolich on 5/25/2009
Articulated well and presented efficiently.

Winston Peters on 5/25/2009
you should explain why this could be bad

Anthony on 5/25/2009
Good inro, but want to know more about it now.

I want to be a part of the team doing these! :) Lee www.texastoo.com

I do enjoy the videos that discuss the execution plan elements, these are the most helpful to me since I do a lot of query optimization work at my company.

suvankar on 5/27/2009
good

Jed Perlowin on 5/29/2009
All this video said was "There is a spool operator" and explained the difference between eager and lazy.

Milton Daniel on 5/30/2009
Good, but is too short...

answer to the point. Thanks

Need to be expounded in detail

Nick on 11/2/2011
I would have liked to know when it could cause problems.

Obinna on 11/2/2011
cool

Interesting topic.

learning new things:)

William on 11/2/2011
Explanation was too short, several more examples would have been nice.

Robert McEuen on 11/2/2011
Short but sweet...

Steve Harris on 11/2/2011
what are situations when this would be bad and how would you detect them

The extra 15 seconds to explain when it is good and bad may have been worth the effort.

Robert Turner on 11/2/2011
Lacking in any real detail. Making a video to state the most basic definition followed by a 1 line warning is pretty bad. Would've been better to make a 1 line statement describing the spool and spending some time talking about when it is good and when it could be considered a problem. If time permitted, talking about how to solve some of the most basic problems would've been nice as well though not required.

Randall Price on 11/2/2011
Nice but too basic!

D151BB6B9F on 11/2/2011
Can cause problems? What problems? An extra minute with a little more explanation would have made this worthwhile.

Peter Hankins on 11/2/2011
Interesting

Alex Zuroff on 11/2/2011
We're told that there are situations where spooling can cause problems - but then we're never told what those situations are or how to avoid them.

Dan on 11/2/2011
need more info like this!

Jim Langdon on 11/2/2011
Quick tidbit that sticks in your head.

Mike Eastland on 11/2/2011
This was a good intro, but the duration could have been extended to include some cases of when the spool operator is detrimental and how to address such a scenario.

John O'Sullivan on 11/2/2011
Interesting Execution Plan topic

Frankoid on 11/2/2011
It did not tell me how to use the 'Eager Spool'.

Prince on 11/3/2011
very useful learning

Please speak a little louder

A4A72D151B on 11/7/2011
simple and to the point

Dennis Allen on 11/7/2011
Love to see more of these "What is a..." in the execution plan. Thanks!

Jolyon on 11/9/2011
Very short, and questions at end of video were not covered in video.

Dexter Jones on 11/15/2011
Too short. More detail would be nice.
