Didn't say how to use the categories to your advantage.

Good post and good idea, but is there a way to place those categories in a folder like structure?
IMO it would make sense if the categories were more visually separate in SSMS instead of just having a long list of all jobs.

It'd be great if under the Jobs folder, there could be a folder for each category.

Excellent tip. I wasn't aware of it...

Using categories is a great idea. In our shop we have what we call standard server jobs. Placing these into a category seems to make sense if for nothing else, to be able to view all jobs on a server that are in that category. Thank you for the tip!

You didn't show the value of this after you put a job into a category- i.e. how is that useful?

learned: how to add your own categories (simple but the one time I looked for it I didn't look good enough...)
